‘Ryan Lane will be There Now in a Minute’ 2019/2020
A show for anyone with a complex relationship to home, Ryan Lane’s playful, inventive and intimate character comedy explores what it means to be Welsh, queer and the myths that fuel national identity. A fast-paced, whip-smart satire with belly laughs, bellowing Rugby teachers, beguiling maidens, belligerent Grandma's and brilliant lip syncing. Think The League of Gentlemen meets Under Milk Wood and Clueless. Ryan's a graduate of Soho Theatre Young Company. This show's made with help from friends, family and 29 years of Welsh self-hatred.
I collaborated with Ryan to create this show for his first solo Edinburgh run 2019.
We worked from the costumes he brought in to show me and the anecdotes and stories he told me about his home and growing up in Wales.
Supported by Arts Council of England, The Pleasance and SOHO Theatre.

“Ryan Lane does monstrous things to leeks and the rules of rugby”

"Every opportunity is seized to squeeze every laugh out of a moment, and Lane does it with aplomb, through the extensive physical and vocal toolkit that he and director Georgia Murphy establish with each character"
