Frills and Spills
2020, Camden People's Theatre & UK tour
Welcome to the Cabaret…
You’re invited to the fancy, farcical and frivolous world of Frills and Spills. They’re here to delight, to excite and to cleanse your soul of it’s daily dirt darling.
Stumble Trip combine their ‘multiple skills, classic storytelling and madcap humour’ (FringeReview) with extravagant costume, in a raucous bouffon show about power & privilege. Expect french fancies and plentiful petticoats in this ‘hour of excellently timed, infectiously funny, joyous clowning’. (A Younger Theatre)
Supported by Arts Council England, Shoreditch Town Hall.
Performed to sell out audiences at The Wardrobe Theatre and Camden People's Theatre.
A work-in-progress version of this show had been performed at Brighton Fringe before I came on board as director and dramaturg. Chloe and Grace wanted to develop the show further, go darker, go more bouffon and give it a bit more punch. This we did! We created a solid foundation and through thread, generated far more material, fine tuned the best bits of the original and gave it a frame, a style and a delicate ending.
We also fed the audience Croquembouche.
“A stupendous and inspired piece of theatre; an absolute must see!”
