'Supermies'

2021, Helsinki Opera House

A clown opera exploring the themes of fatherhood and what it means to be a 'man' today. Using a mixture of clown, opera, recorded interviews with family members and a three piece baroque band.

This was created during deep lockdown - we began researching and co-writing online with bi-weekly sessions. We even had a mini R&D exploring which characters/costumes/ props and music Jouni would like to use. I coached sessions via zoom in the UK with Jouni and an assistant director working in a rehearsal space in Finland. Fortunately we managed to do in-person rehearsals and create the show (working in a mixture of english and finnish) which premiered at the Helsinki Opera house before touring Finland.
